The constructive rest position (or semi supine) is a great relaxation positionfor anyone with back pain or disk problems. It is beloved of by the community of teachers of the Alexander system and many others.
Practice it around the mid-day time for 20 minutes if that is practical for you. If not it is still beneficial to do it for a shorter time at any time of day.
It will help to relax those tight spinal muscles and take pressure off your disks.
If you have sciatic type pain then you can add a small folded towel or piece of firm foam underneath your sacrum – the hard bony bit at the bottom of your spine.
Will this also help with a neck and spine which is compressed & causing problems? I have been doing the semi supine a few days and now I feel discomfort in the upper chest/back. Is this a sign of proper alignment occurring?
