Deep Forward Bends – Malasana (Garland Pose) Yoga Tutorial. This is a yoga tutorial for the squatting forward bends, Malasana (Garland Pose) Yoga Tutorial. Although this is not a complex pose, the way that we teach in this yoga tutorial is more appropriate for intermediate students. We will show a way for Beginners to Yoga to practice this in another yoga video.
This forward bend pose creates flexibility and strength in the hips, legs, feet and ankles. Like the other forward bends, this asana helps to soothe the nervous system, relieving anxiety and helping you deal with stress. If you experience discomfort in the knees in this pose, we would recommend you go to an Iyengar yoga teacher near to you.
In this asana tutorial, Lin and Leo show a modification of the classic pose. If this is too much for you at this stage, keep doing the standing poses and go over our Beginners Series:
and our 30 days of Yoga series:
until the legs and hips become more flexible.
Do all 5 of these forward bending poses separately to learn the poses and then do our Deep Forward Bend Collection. In this led practice, where appropriate, Lin does the classic versions of the poses and Leo shows the modified versions for those Yoga students who are still working towards the poses.
Our Yoga Pose Directory offers both Beginners Yoga and poses for more Intermediate yoga students.

Join Yoga with Lin and Leo for safe, detailed instruction from experienced Iyengar yoga teachers. Although we would always suggest that you find a certified Iyengar yoga teacher so that you can attend a class near you, this channel has yoga sequences to help you with yoga at home.
Yoga is not a sport but regular practice of yoga sequences can improve fitness levels. Practiced correctly, yoga will stretch muscles and strengthen joints, as well as helping with mental and physical wellbeing; indeed many studies have shown that yoga can improve problems with back pain, shoulder pain and neck pain as well as demonstrating positive effects on mental health problems such as depression, stress and general anxiety.

I would like more longer whole classes as it is hard to know where in my practice to include these single poses.
Hi Lin and Leo! Thanks for this great idea to show the practice for different bodies. I would like to recommend one thing that might enhance your videos. It's a bit difficult to hear well, I think using the mics can help to make the sound sharp and clear without any echo or background noice. I once had to get a mic myself for interviews I had to conduct, and it's greatly enhanced the quality. Cheers!
