A gentle one-hour long hatha yoga session using props and a belt. This yoga session was designed for those suffering spasms or tension in the piriformis muscles. The piriformis muscles are located deep within the hip / buttock regions, tension in this area may lead to pain in the back or down the legs, similar to sciatica.
This yoga class, taught by yoga therapist, Genny Brown, emphasises stretching out the muscles of the hips as well as strengthening the leg and back muscles. The session also includes some gentle flowing movements as well as guided breathing techniques and relaxation.
This class is fairly gentle, though not recommended for complete beginners. If you are new to yoga it is best to attend a live class, either online or, if possible, in person. If you have any pre-existisng medical conditions please check with a medical professional before undertaking this, or any new form of exercise.
