A lovely release for the low back. This works much better for lengthening behind the waist than doing Child’s Pose if your knees cannot take the weight of your body at such an acute angle. You’ll also give your arms a good stretch out. If they aren’t long enough to reach your feet, use a Yoga strap – the flow is just as effective.
This was designed for Seniors as a floor practice to open the hips also as the femur bone is brought into flexion and external rotation by the movement. Try to relax into it if you can and of course, if anything hurts, just release the legs further from the body or stop if necessary, though you can expect to feel a certain amount of compression in the hip, especially if you have arthritis and it may be a huge back lengthener if you are hyperlordotic. This compression in the bones is useful for those at risk of Osteoporotic changes.
Let me know how it goes and if there is anything else you would like me to teach you or help you with.
