Hello everyone!
Here is the week 28 or the last week yoga sequence of this weekly Beginners Iyengar Yoga sequences. Hope you enjoy, learn a lot and get the benefits from this unique style practice of yoga. These weekly Yoga sequences are for practice and learning both specially for beginners. As we are progressing in our practice a variety of asana are included to achieve the goal of improving the body structure and lubricating the joints, creating freedom of movement in the joint. I always tell you that it is important to maintain the sequence as it is not the individual asana but these sequences are designed as a consolidated practice of a group of asana-s that brings about the desired effect on the practitioner.
Today we will practice in a little different and fun way. Normally we practice asanas one after other with the appropriate actions in the pose. Today we will complete a no. of asanas in right side and then complete the whole cycle in the left. I hope you enjoy this flow style practice of Iyengar Yoga.
These whole sequences are structured around 3 basic components-warm-up, session focus and cool down. That’s why we started the session without any extra warm-up as starting standing asanas with basic arm actions are used as a warm-up. From now sequences are a bit longer and include all different class of asanas like standing poses, Standing forward bends, Seated pose, Seated forward bends, twisting poses, inverted poses, backbends etc.
In this sequence, we are practicing the Backbends/Backward extensions together. Do these poses as demonstrated in the sequence to avoid any discomfort. One thing to keep in mind about this sequence is that, in starting it’s hard to hold the backbend pose for a long time. When practice backbend in starting your approach should be “touch and go” or “attempt and release” the pose.
Previous weeks sequences practice laid a strong foundation for future practice. One more thing, for a beginner, the quality of asana is more important than the duration of stay in the asana. Geetaji says in her book “Yoga in Action: PRELIMINARY COURSE”, our duty as a beginner is to keep on practicing with a steady and firm mind. Hope you are practicing well. Whole week if you practice this session, it will get you ready for the next week sequences. This way you will progress in your learning and practice of yoga. In my opinion, it is very important to learn poses in right way to get the full benefits of yoga practice.
Be gentle with yourself, enjoy, stay mindful and observe your mind and body after yoga practice in Shavasana.
Good Luck!
