Yay lateral bends!
A GREAT substitute for triangle pose – perhaps the safest way to help your students do lateral bends if they have sacroiliac joint issues or lower back problems.
Make sure that you’re inhaling as you reach the right arm up over the head and then exhale as you bend the elbow and draw the arm back down engaging the belly strongly.
The key here is abdominal engagement on the exhale. That’s really what helps to keep the lower back safe.
Also I don’t know if you can see it in this video but my feet are parallel. My left foot is NOT turned out to the left it’s situated straight ahead. This also is protective for the lower back.
