Tightness is VERY common after surgery and/or radiation therapy. We see this possibly caused by
🔸pain
🔸 fibrosis
🔸 expanders
🔸 scar tissue
🔸 swelling or inflammation
🔸 guarding or fear of movement
The tightness across the chest can pull the shoulders and should blades (scapulas) forward, creating tightness, stiffness, pain, and poor mobility in the mid-back and thoracic spine. Sitting in poor posture and on our phones/iPads during the day definitely doesn’t help either 😬
✅so Save these for Later
These exercises are great to improve mobility in the mid-back, open up the chest, and reduce pain and stiffness.
👉🏼 Ballerina Stretch and Side-Bending: pull up and over for a lat and side stretch
👉🏼 Rainbows and Wall Openers: draw up and over at a wall, while facing to the side. Move away from the wall for less of a stretch
👉🏼 Chest openers: with a roller or a yoga block. Stay opened up while raising and lowering arms
👉🏼 Extension over a foam roller: claps hands behind your head for support, but also to localize the extension. Add rotation, as desired
