I love reclining Yin poses because having the back supported on the ground prevents strain or injury, allowing for deep, safe stretching 🥰. There are four reasons why reclining Yin poses are for you:
(1) If flexing your torso (moving it forward) is challenging, doing the pose lying down will help you get a deeper stretch of the muscles and connective tissue
(2) If you have lower back problems, reclining poses are a great alternative as supporting and stretching the lumber muscles relieves low back pain
(3) If you have tight knees, it reduces the pressure on the joints, such as the knees, allowing you to adapt and decide how deep you go into the stretch
(4) If you’re feeling stressed or tired and need an opportunity to relax and unwind
Join me on to explore the benefits of different reclining Yin poses to get an all-over stretch of your leg muscles, open your hips and chest while gently stretching the lower back. Come and discover the Reclining Child’s Pose, Reclining Butterfly, Wall Happy Baby, Wall Straddle, Reclining Sleeping Swan and Reclining Fish. For each pose, I give at least two options so you can choose what’s best for you. I’ll also tell you where you should be feeling the stretch – what we call the target area of the pose. As two of the poses will be against the wall, make sure you have a wall nearby! You’ll also need two blocks, a bolster and a belt (any type of belt which ISN’T elastic).
