STRETCH+FLEX is my 40-minute yoga-inspired workout whereby I use traditional yoga poses, combined with athletic and therapeutic stretches to enhance flexibility, improve core strength and promote overall better movement and stability. Each workout is different and I try to bring a specific focus each time we are together.
In today’s workout, I break down some of the warm up moves that I use in my strength workouts, specifically for hips, torso and shoulders. There are multiple ways to deliver stretches as today’s workout shows both standing and lying versions of hip stretches.
I also bring in a segment that forces torso movement while lower body remains stable. This activates the core and will alert you of weaknesses that you should focus on.
As in all workouts, move at your own pace and stay away from poses or stretches that are bothersome, uncomfortable or if you have an injury that would be further compromised. Stretching and flexibility is never about competition or comparison; it is about furthering the health, stability and proper movement of our bodies.
