Today, I am sharing with you how I teach my students to find a proper cross-legged siting pose for their yoga practice, meditation or pranayama – breathing. Remember, there is no need to buy yoga pants if you are a beginner, start with comfortable clothes and follow my lessons. You can use any yoga mat for your morning practice. I recommend to use a firm yoga pillow, cushion or a cork yoga block so that the hips come higher up than the knees to avoid any discomfort or strain.
Here 9 points you should focus on:
Point 1 – Find a cross-legged sitting position where your spine is straight.
Point 2 – Use a cushion or yoga block (recommended) and sit on the edge, so that the knees can relax.
Point 3 – Release and relax your shoulders, neck and head – even your face.
Point 4 – Slightly engage your shoulder blades to open up your chest.
Point 5 – Keep the chin parallel to the floor.
Point 6 – Relax your lower-back.
Point 7 – Relax your face – a smile on your face does the magic!
Point 8 – Inhale by inflating the abdomen first, followed by the chest up to the clavicles.
Point 9 – Exhale the same way, start with the abdomen first, followed by the chest area.
Tune into the chant of Om=AUM and listen to the opening prayer – Dhyana Slokas in Sanskrit to allow your mind to relax and to create a peaceful space for your practice.
Om Shanti!
